If you are a tourist visiting Japan from abroad for sightseeing:
Japan Immigration Law states that You must be visiting Japan under the entry status of “Temporary visitor”.
If you are entering to Japan under the purpose of short term sightseeing, you will get a stamp showing “Temporary visitor”, and Only a person who has a passport with this stamp can use a JAPAN RAIL PASS.
If you are a Australian residents holding a Japanese nationality:
You must
a) presesnt the evidance of the visa wich allowes youto live permanently in that country; or
b) presenet the marridge certificate stating you have spause who is a non-Japanese and is residing in a country other than Japan.
Note:
JR Hokkaido, East, West or Kyushu Rail passes are not available for the Australian residents travelling on a Japanese passport.
