JR Pass is offered for All Japan, JR Kyusyu, JR Shikoku, JR West, JR Central, JR East, and JR Hokkaido only for travelers visiting Japan from overseas for short term sightseeing.
JR pass can be purchased only overseas and not inside Japan.

JR West Rail pass
There are two rail passes available to travel around the west of Japan, these are;

The Sanyo Pass
: covers from Osaka to Hakata, and is available in 4 and 8 consecutive days. Travel is permitted on the Haruka Express train to/from Kansai Airport.
*Please note: You can NOT travel to / from Kyoto on this pass.

The Kansai Pass 
: covers from Kyoto to Himeji and is available in 1, 2, 3 and 4 days. These passes are available in Economy only. The pass holder has unlimited use of any standard trains and Haruka non-reserved seats within the corresponding area. This pass includes travel to/from Kyoto.

STEPS TO GET JPAN RAIL PASS
Check1- Am I eligible for Japan rail Pass ??
-Japan Rail Pass is only available to the travelers visiting Japan under the entry status of “temporary Visitor” as Japan Immigration Low’s statement.
To exchange your Exchange order to JR pass, you have to present your passport with this evidence of “temporary Visitor”.
-If you are a traveler holding Japanese Passport and living in a foreign country,
you have to present either;
-an evidence of the qualification which allows you to live in that country permanently; or
-a marriage certificate which state you married to a non-Japanese residing not in Japan.

Check3-  How and Where can I get Japan Rail Pass?
You can order your Japan Rail Pass in Australia of course, and you will get ‘Exchange Order’ from the agent, and then, you can turn the exchange order in for JR Pass on your arrival to Japan. Please note that you have to turn in your Exchange order to JR Pass within 3 months from the date your Exchange order was issued. You can also specify the date you will start using JR Pass when you turn your exchange order in for JR Pass. Please present your Exchange order AND your passport at the time.

When you would like to reserve for a seat on a train, please go to the rail office called “Midori-no-Madoguchi” in train Stations, and present your JR Pass.

*Note: The JAPAN RAIL PASS is not valid for any seats, reserved or non-reserved, on “NOZOMI” trains on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen.
